Bodies in urban spaces
The outdoor performance of Austrian choreographer Willi Dorner was happening on the streets of Murska Sobota. With no doubts it offers an interesting perspective for the spectators to redefine the public space and its possibilities. Group of performers running and taking positions in very unusual spots, placing their bodies on walls, in between tress, underneath the balconies, climbing windows or just lying down around the phone booth. Spectators were just following the route and watching performers being steal and melting in to the environment.
Perception of urban space is changing. It opens for wider context and reveal the idea of it. The performance has its specific esthetic and is already internationally recognized. Here the simplicity is the key, with no emotional and theatrical content anonymous bodies simply are being installed in the space. Physicality and strength of each performer is definitely admirable, as they say it's all about breathing and staying calm. It seems so natural and esthetically pleasant to witness.
Where else we can seat, stand, jump and melt... the architecture of Murska Sobota becomes a real playground for colorfully dressed dancers who just move around by creating unusual sightseeing tour for spectators of Fronta Festival and random by-passers.
