Dan Kinzelman & Kristijan Krajnčan: EXPERIMENTAL – JAZZ – glasba (USA, SI)
Slovenski multiinštrumentalist in ameriški specialist za pihala Dan Kinzelman sicer prvič nastopata na istem odru, imata pa oba 'korenine' v sodobnem jazzu in bogate izkušnje kot solo izvajalca. V zadnjih letih sta se oba dotaknila sorodnih polj in začela skladati glasbo za gledališče, televizijo in ples, v kateri so koncepti forme in giba bistvenega pomena.
Uspeh performansa, kakršen je ta, je odvisen od doseganja pravega ravnovesja med individualno avtonomijo in enotnostjo namena. Glasbeniki raziskujejo in odkrijejo svet, ki ga razvijajo, preverjajo elastično tkanino, ki so jo ustvarili, iščejo točko ravnovesja, ki jim daje svobodo v njihovih individualnih odklonih in oscilacijah, ne da bi pri tem uničili strukturo.
DAN KINZELMAN
Po selitvi v Italijo leta 2005 je Dan Kinzelman hitro dosegel slavo. Pridružil se je bandu legendarnega trobentača Enrica Rave, nastopal po Italiji in Evropi kot priznan solist, aranžer in glasbeni vodja ter snemal za prestižno nemško založbo ECM. Hkrati se je lotil dolgoročnega sodelovanja z glasbeniki, kot so Giovanni Guidi, Mauro Ottolini in Simone Graziano, in pomagal ustanoviti novo underground jazz sceno v Italiji.
Od leta 2010 se je osredotočil predvsem na lastne, bolj eksperimentalne projekte in nekaj sodelovanj z izbranimi glasbeniki. Kolektivni trio Hobby Horse je pred kratkim izdal svoj šesti album, ki je bil odlično sprejet in predstavljen na gostovanjih v Italiji, ZDA, Avstriji, Španiji in na Nizozemskem, njegov pihalni kvartet Dan Kinzelman's Ghost pa bo letos drugič nastopil na najbolj pomembnem italijanskem jazz festivalu Umbria Jazz.
V zadnjih letih je Kinzelman začel pisati glasbo za film in ples. Njegov trio Pylon ja dobil naročilo za pripravo živega zvočnega zapisa za serijo kratkih filmov Ladislasa Starewitcha, v zadnjih dveh letih pa se je okrepilo tudi njegovo sodelovanje z mladim italijanskim koreografom Danielom Ninarellom. Njun debut na Beneškem bienalu 2016 ju je privedel do nastopov na Danskem, Irskem, v Tuniziji, Franciji in na Kitajskem
KRISTJAN KRAJNČAN
Kristijan Krajnčan (Kranj, 1986) se je rodil v glasbeni družini in pričel z igranjem violončela pri petih in igranjem bobnov pri desetih letih. Po končani Srednji glasbeni in baletni šoli na obeh instrumentih se je preselil na Nizozemsko, kjer je diplomiral iz jazz bobnov na Konservatoriju Price Claus (Groningen, 2009) in magistriral iz filmske glasbe na Amsterdamskem konservatoriju (Amsterdam, 2013).
V svoji glasbeni karieri je zaradi poznavanja in obvladovanja različnih glasbenih zvrsti sodeloval z mnogimi mednarodnimi glasbeniki, v zasedbah od tria do big banda. Kot bobnar in čelist je sodeloval pri 25 zgoščenkah in koncertiral v več kot 25 državah v Evropi, ZDA, Aziji, Indoneziji, na Bližnjem vzhodu in v Afriki. Kot skladatelj filmske glasbe se je podpisal pod tri celovečerce in devet kratkih filmov.
Je ustanovitelj, režiser, bobnar in komponist interdisciplinarnega projekta »Hidden Myth«, ki je bil premierno prikazan na Jazz festivalu Ljubljana (2015). V njem več mednarodnih umetnikov v enotno zgodbo združuje glasbo, ples, poezijo, vizualne projekcije in svet mitologije.
Kot režiser je avtor več kratkih filmov in glasbenih videov različnih žanrov, kot so jazz, šanson, klasična in rock glasba. Njegov zadnji kratki igrani film »In je takoj večer« je bil prikazan v tekmovalnem programu Festivala slovenskega filma (Portorož, 2015).
»DrummingCellist« je njegov najnovejši solo avtorski projekt, v katerem igra violončelo in bobne, klasično in jazz glasbo. Združevanje nasprotujočih si idej pa ga zanima že od nekdaj, saj pravi da zanj »v svojem notranjem bistvu ni razlike med J. S. Bachom in afriško glasbo.«

Meeting on stage for the first time, Slovenian multi-instrumentalist and American-born woodwind specialist Dan Kinzelman each have backgrounds in contemporary jazz as well as extensive experience as solo performers. In recent years, each has expanded into neighboring fields, composing music for stage, screen and dance, in which the concepts of form and gesture are of crucial importance.
The success of a performance like this one hinges on finding the correct balance between individual autonomy and unity of intent. Over time, the musicians explore and discover the world they are developing, testing the elastic fabric which they have created, seeking a point of equilibrium which allows them freedom in their individual deviations and oscillations, without destroying the structure itself.
DAN KINZELMAN
After moving to Italy in 2005, Dan Kinzelman rose quickly to national prominence, joining the band of trumpet legend Enrico Rava, performing throughout Italy and Europe as a featured soloist, arranger and musical director and recording for prestigious German record label ECM. At the same time, he began long-term collaborations with musicians like Giovanni Guidi, Mauro Ottolini and Simone Graziano, helping to found a new underground jazz scene in Italy. Since 2010 he has focused principally on his own, more experimental projects as well as a few select collaborations. The collective trio Hobby Horse recently released it's 6th album to universal acclaim, touring in Italy, the U.S.A., Austria, Spain and Holland, and his wind quartet Dan Kinzelman's Ghost will be playing for the second time this year at Umbria Jazz, Italy's most important jazz festival. In recent years Kinzelman has branched out into composing music for film and dance. His trio Pylon was commissioned to prepare a live soundtrack for a series of short films by Ladislas Starewitch and in the last two years his collaboration with young Italian choreographer Daniele Ninarello has blossomed. Their 2016 debut at the Venice Biennial has led to performances in Denmark, Ireland, Tunisia, France and China.
KRISTJAN KRAJNČAN
Kristijan Krajnčan (Kranj, 1986) was born into a musical family and started playing cello at the age of five and drums at the age of ten. After finishing Secondary Music & Ballet School on both instruments, he moved to the Netherlands where he graduated in jazz drums at the Price Claus Conservatorium (Groningen, 2009) and took a Master’s degree in film music at the Amsterdam Conservatorium (Amsterdam, 2013).
His knowledge and mastery of different music genres has enabled him to collaborate with many international musicians and working with musical ensembles from trios to big bands. As a drummer and cellist, he has collaborated on 25 CDs and performed concerts in more than 25 countries in Europe, USA, Asia, Indonesia, Near East and Africa. As a composer of film scores he has worked on three feature films and nine short films.
He is the founder, director, drummer and composer of the interdisciplinary project “Hidden Myth” premiered at Ljubljana Jazz Festival (Ljubljana, 2015). This is a project in which several international artists combine into a single story of music, dance, poetry, visual screenings and the world of mythology.
He has directed several short films and music videos of various genres, such as jazz, chanson, classical and rock music. His most recent short feature film “In je takoj večer” was included in the competition programme of the Festival of Slovenian Film (Portorož, 2015).
“Drumming Cellist” is his latest solo project in which he plays cello and drums, classical and jazz music. He has always been interested in joining together contradictory ideas. In his words: “In its internal essence there is no difference between J.S. Bach and African music.”
