OPUS 1– Dance Miniature
OPUS 1’s intention is to encourage young dancers to independently create original solo dances or compositions for a maximum of two dancers. The emphasis is laid on the independent work of the dancers and development of a dance miniature, with the mentor merely unobtrusively guiding the young artists in creating their own dance expression and independent choreographic work. The annual prescribed themes should encourage young dancers for critical reflection on individual issues and also provide them with an opportunity to get to know, explore and create. This year’s theme encourages reflection on the connection between dance or structured human movement and music or sound patterns. When and in what kind of contexts do music and dance interact? What is the nature of their relationship? Does the dancer follow the sound or the sound supports the dancer’s movement? And are there contexts, in which music and dance or sound and movement come together to form a whole? How do movement and sound merge and resonate in each other?
