Znova in znova. In še vedno in še vedno.

Gran Bolero (2023) is an orchestrating, instrumenting of groups, relations, and relationships between groups and in a group, through repetition as looping, or escalation, for the community to emerge – its bond, tissue, limit, surplus – precisely in the tension of that 'more!', that drive, that persistence, that exhaustion that never exhausts itself. Again and again. And over and over. Repetition doesn't kill; repetition saves.
With Gran Bolero, six En–Knap Group dancers and six from the Zagreb Dance Company return to Ravel's score. The performance is a major co-production and an extension of a piece made for two Spanish ensembles. It received outstanding reviews and numerous awards, including the MAX Award (Spanish Performing Arts Award) as the best dance production of 2020.

Anton Lachky's latest choreography for the Central Europe Dance Theatre dancers takes us into a world of contrasts, connecting generations and cultures and transporting us to a series of stories where anything seems possible. It swirls like water, sometimes softly enveloping you and caressing you with a light, loving touch, sometimes surging madly and sucking you in with its power.
We can enjoy the choreography's crazy speed, virtuosity, and colourful scenes . Then, after the applause, we can search for answers as to why all this is appealing while knowing that it is unsustainable, just as the pace of the work is often pushed to the limit. So, how do we move on with our lives?

From the beginning, the Front@ festival has been exploring different ways of presenting contemporary dance outside the theatre halls, in the middle of the city hustle, at various sites in the park, and along the paths of random passers-by. In this way, we want to encourage a response and dialogue between the city and its inhabitants on the one hand and various dance creators on the other. Open cities are defined and shaped by lively communication on multiple levels, which is why we have, through an open call, several times invited dance artists to present their works in a non-theatrical environment. The Open City III presents works selected from the 2023 call to which fifty-nine authors applied.

DANCE COMMUNICATION LAB
umetniško vodstvo / artistic direction: Andreja Rauch (SI)

DCL–Dance Laboratory is aimed at dance creators from different countries getting to know each other through improvisation, the most common creative process in contemporary dance. Through a guided process, the dancers perceive common interests that can lead to new artistic collaborations in the future. At the end, the participants present the several-day long process in an improvisational event to the public.

EMOTIONAL DISTANCE

Glasba / Music: Jang Ji Ho
Kostumi / Costumes: Choi In Sook
Vodja vaj / Rehearsal director: Younhchae Kim

Čustvena distanca gradi zgodbo o avtobiografskih dogodkih v posameznikovem subjektivnem in deklarativnem spominu.

Emotional Distance is a building story about autobiographical events in an individual's subjective and declarative memory. From birth, we recall anecdotal memories such as time, place, emotion, and knowledge and sense emotional distance from the past.
We all maintain different distances but, sometimes, we allow ourselves to get close(r) to each other only to be further apart just a moment later. At that moment, emotional distance is unavoidable.

OBSERVATION OF LIFE AND DEATH

Kim Won Young explores consciousness as proof of life, as indicated in the process of thinking and emotional experiences. The performance Observation of Life and Death reflects moments, each fading like life, which seems as short as snapping a finger.

Plesalci / Dancers: Choi Ho Jeong, Choi Jeong Hong, Jang Soo Beom, Choi Ye Won, Oh Hyeon Taek, Kim Seok Hyun
Glasba / Music: Jang Ji Ho
Kostumi / Costumes: Choi In Sook

Peak attempts to express the climax that can be felt when reaching a physical goal. Through his energetic dance, Choi Ho Jeong explores feelings in stages of exploration and excitement that define the path of an ambitious person ascending tirelessly from one objective to another.
