The dance
production Numbbodynumbpoems
–
which rounds up the twenty years of Matjaž Farič in
dance – consists of quick turns of the centre of
action, a blend of stories and the atmosphere common at
parties where a mass of people is having fun without
really noticing each other.
The stage presents scenes of people who wish to relate
their stories but are prevented by various inhibitions.
Their voices are blocked in their throats, overflow
their bodies and send words into their feet. Movements
replace voices; we seem to be watching mute poems. The
wish for incessant satisfaction urges people on stage
into perpetual action. Fear of standstill causes some
to panic. Great expectations paralyse the mind of
others and trigger tensions. They would do anything to
prolong pleasant moments and for this reason they
constantly invent new, senseless actions that help them
delay the return into the daily life.
Noise and artificial enthusiasm spin around them. One
feels, as he observes everything from afar,
increasingly alienated from what is happening. The
language everybody speaks is turning into nonsense.
The performance Numbbodynumbpoems
uses
the scenes of party to travel through thoughts and
feelings of people in a world ruled by permanent search
for happiness and success. Behind the noise, boasting
and shallow haste a wish for vulnerability is hiding,
for tears and sincere laughter. Through bitter-sweet
scenes, the party-thirsty dancers dance through their
passions, fears, aspirations, sadness and joy.
