Two dancers and two musicians bring traditional music from the Maghreb into dialogue with today’s popular music, questioning our relationship to memory and community. Filipe Lourenço is shaped by training in Arab-Andalusian music, an apprenticeship in traditional dances, and a career in contemporary dance. In his choreographies, he explores both his own heritage and the contemporary relevance of these ancestral cultures.
Brought to life on stage by composer François CaGenne and electronic musician and percussionist Nuri, the sound creation draws on traditional rhythms as well as pop, rock, funk, and electro influences. Two exceptional dancers embody continuous pulsation, a sense of geometry and repetition, gradually giving rise to an intoxicating trance.
